Chloe Grace Moretz speaks Nimona

Nimona First Look
Screen Rant: I love this movie so much. I laughed, cried, cheered. I wanted to know what it was about Nimona that made you want to be a part of it.
Chloe Grace Moretz: Oh my gosh, I think there are so many reasons why I fell in love with Nimona’s character and story. I think she’s someone who really stands up for what she believes in and, without hesitation, is exactly what she wants to be when she wants to be. And you know, the story has such a great message and such a great core. And when it’s all happening, and when you understand the messaging, it’s great fun. Right out of the gate, it throws you into everything and it’s so exciting to watch.
Screen Rant: Yes! Is it now rated 100% on Rotten Tomatoes? how does it feel
Chloe Grace Moretz: Really good. I don’t think that happens every day, especially with a movie that has really strong messaging and stands up for what it believes in. Because it is so honest in itself.
Screen Rant: Do you personally like Nimona?
Chloe Grace Moretz: Yeah, I think she’s maybe a little more anarchist than I am. He sets out to uproot any preexisting ideals, and he hits the pavement hard. I really appreciate that. I think he’s probably a little more punk than I am. But I’m trying.
Screen Rant: Have you improved at all in the booth? Because it looks like you’re having the best time.
Chloe Grace Moretz: Yeah, sure. I think that was one of the most exciting parts of working with Nick and Troy the directors. They were really upfront in the beginning about how big they wanted to go with Nimona and how unafraid to go to that level with her. I got a chance to really improvise and build the story a little bit with the little moments and find its heartbeat, which was such an experiment at times. I finally sat there where I didn’t watch the movie, and I thought, “Okay, it works. Thank God.”
Screen Rant: What was your reaction when you first saw the movie?
Chloe Grace Moretz: The journey has been several years. I think we started recording, I want to say in 2019, and then we recorded throughout the pandemic. The movie was lost for a short time after Big Sky was shut down, which was very sad and we were heartbroken that it could not see the light of day. But watch it and find its home on Netflix with Annapurna. It’s a perfect home and, in my opinion, being on a streaming service that spans so many countries and so many homes is, in my opinion, the perfect home for it.
Screen Rant: What do you think about Nimona that made it through it all?
Chloë Grace Moretz: I mean, I think the story of this movie, it’s kind of like Nimona’s story, with all the things that basically try to be kept in the dark. He takes any kind of criticism, stands up for what he believes in and this movie does that without hesitation. And it found a home where it could thrive in its own way. So, I think it’s really a story about the underdog. Anyway.
