Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film soldier The city has been the talk of the town ever since the project was announced. Directed by Atlee, the film stars Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara and Priyamani alongside superstars. Among them, Priyamani and SRK have worked together before Chennai Express When the actors matched each other’s steps in the song One two three four. Now, ahead of their next collaboration together, Priyamani has opened up about working with the superstar in the 2013 Rohit Shetty film. In an interview with Gulte.com, Priyamani shared that she was in Bengaluru when she got a call from Rohit Shetty’s office. The actress said that since she thought it was a prank call, she asked her manager to verify its authenticity.
After Priyamani was informed that she would be a part of a song in the film titled Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, she had just one question for director Rohit Shetty. I said, ‘Sir, I have only one question. I hope I’m not like the background dancer you know because your biggest names are Shah Rukh and Deepika’. He said, ‘No, the song is just between you two. I said, ‘Where do I sign, please? Now!’” admitted Priyamani. He also added that the group approached him after being impressed with his dance performance in a Kannada song with late Puneeth Rajkumar.
Talking about working with Shah Rukh Khan, Priyamani said, “When they [first] Shah Rukh Khan said, I am dead. My lifelong dream of breathing at least as much air as that man is about to come true.”
Reminiscing about the shooting of the song, Priyamani said, “Shah Rukh Khan was very sweet, a very ordinary person. I mean, he’s the sweetest person alive. So, he came to me at one point because there were certain steps that we had to repeat a few times. Said, ‘No, no darling, you sit down, I will.’ I said, ‘No, sir, I’m fine. I love to dance, so I don’t mind dancing however many times you want me to dance…’ It was the best five nights of my life.” He added, “We did not sit and chat, but played Kaun Banega is a millionaire on his iPad. He gave me Rs 200 because my answers were correct.”
Talking about the superstar’s work ethic, Priyamani added, “For us, once you finish work at two in the morning or six in the morning, you want to go back and sleep. But this guy, after shooting, after packing up, he takes an assistant, they go to the set or maybe his room and they rehearse.”
Priyamani – in a career spanning two decades – has worked in Hindi as well as several South Indian projects. He won the National Award for his performance in the 2007 film Paruthiveeran.
